Kwik Sew 3980: Memee’s Birthday Pajamas

I recently went to visit my grandmother in Texas for her birthday. I love it there! She lives very close to the border. It is nice and warm and while things in St. Louis are still in Winter Mode, Texas plants are blooming away!

I decided to use my sewing powers for non-selfish reasons, for once, and made her a pair of pajamas. Now my Memee is very particular about her pajamas. These are her requirements.

  1. No cotton. The only pajamas she will wear are slippery nylon which are damn near impossible to find!
  2. No buttons down the front. If you do manage to find the unicorn of pajamas, they have buttons down the front which poke her in the middle of the night.
  3. The tops and bottoms should be matching colors.

Enter the Kwik Sew 3980 Pajama Set version A with some very nice lace details! I have finally found the pattern that will encompass all of those requirements!

“Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident!”

“Always wear clean underwear in case you get in an accident!”

My Grandma used to say this before we left the house. I fell down a Google rabbit hole trying to figure out where this saying came from and why it even exists. I found nothing useful, except that almost everyone has heard this bizarre saying. Well, I try to wear decent underwear most days, but you know, laundry day happens.

Over the holidays I decided to splurge and buy a couple of matching underwear and bra sets. I haven’t gotten around to making my own yet. I found this really cute pair, but they are a full brief cut. And I mean, full! They come up over my belly button. I decided to cut them down to a hipster style. It really wasn’t very difficult and a nice way to work on a new-to-me lingerie fabric. Love Notions Laundry Day Tee

I have been fussing with two troublesome party dress muslins and I am not quite ready to cut into my good fabric. So I decided I needed a break and the instant gratification of just finishing one easy thing! Enter the Laundry Day Tee. It is a really quick make with simple instructions, and yet, I managed to mess up each and every step! Have you ever had one of those sewing days? It’s embarrassing, but not so mortifying that I am unwilling to share it with you!

oops
See? I even had trouble taking photos. I snapped so many with my eyes closed. Although, this turned out to be kind of sassy.
