New Knitter

Recently I decided to take a knitting class. It’s nearly fall here even though it is going to be 96°F today. The leaves are starting to turn orange and I have always thought of knitting as a fall and winter activity like with a cozy fire crackling in the fireplace, a mug of hot tea steaming, and knitting needles clicking away. I don’t have a fireplace, but I’m working on the mug of tea and knitting part.

I’m still sewing often, blog posts to come, but I’m kind of excited to have a real “slow craft” project. I whipped up a simple black dress on my sewing machine in a couple of hours this weekend which is great! Don’t get me wrong! But, there is something about working on a piece for several weeks, not just because of mistakes, that I am looking forward to. Slow craft really gives you time to think and reflect while you are working with your hands.

Another Old Movie Binge

It has happened again, I have gone on another classic movie watching binge. Sometimes I just want to see some crazy 60’s Givenchy outfits in action, you know?

How to Steal A Million(1966): Audrey Hepburn, Peter O’Toole, Eli Wallach

This is on Netflix right now. It’s pretty cute, and they give Hepburn some nutso outfits to wear. I have never really seen the appeal of Peter O’Toole until this movie. I get it now. His facial expressions are brilliant! Hepburn’s father is a forger that is getting in over his head selling forged artworks. He donates a forged sculpture to a museum and realizes he is in trouble when they set a date for forgery testing. Hepburn enlists private investigator, who she thinks is a thief, Peter O’Toole, to help her steal back the sculpture and keep her father out of jail.

From Fenix Romper to Fenix High-Low Dress

So I tried to make a romper. The Fenix Romper.  The pattern is good, it comes together really quickly, but I just cannot see myself wearing it. It actually doesn’t look terrible while standing still, but it does scrunch in the crotch when I walk. I also felt a little like a child in it, and not in a good way, and I am not a fan of taking the whole thing off when I go the restroom. Yuck.

Fenix Square

Oh well! The good news is that this is a roomy pattern, meaning I have the opportunity to re-cut and re-fashion which is not always the case!
