Textile Discount Outlet in Chicago

We recently took a little mini-vacation in Chicago. Normally on a trip we pack in the things to do from sun up to sun down, but this time we really just needed a relaxing weekend. Instead of hitting all of the sites we booked a boat tour of the river and lake, had some cocktails, took naps, and visited some of our favorite shops.

I did add one shop to our trip that I had heard of, but never visited. It’s called Textile Discount Outlet. It had really great reviews online and it was on our way out of town so I convinced my kind, patient, loving husband that 13 rooms of floor to ceiling fabrics and notions, really wouldn’t take that long to go through!

Tea Towels with Custom Spoonflower Fabric

2

I’m a little behind on this, but I decided to make the recipe tea towels for Mother’s Day. In February I went to Texas to visit my Grandmother and one afternoon we looked through a bunch of her and her Granny’s recipes. There were some old favorites like Cherry Mash Candy, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Peanut Butter Balls which are a Christmas tradition, and Twinkie Cake. There were also some things I have never had like Fresh Apple Cake and Mince Pie. (Not sure about that mince pie…)

Altering Sandals

Most of the sewing I have done recently has been altering little things. A little hemming here, a little letting out there. You know, not super fun stuff to share with the world!

Summer has finally arrived and I realized I don’t own a pair of brown sandals. I actually don’t own many sandals at all. I saw some online that looked like they would work for casual days and work days! Of course, shopping online has the one caveat, that you cannot try on your shoes before you buy.

Spring Willamette Shirt

I have had my eye on some Hey June Handmade patterns for awhile. I finally decided to pull the trigger and make the Willamette shirt for spring. I really like View A. I made a few alterations. I made the top longer into a tunic style so I can wear it with leggings. I also graded it up from a size 22 to a 24, but I think I could have gotten away with the smaller size. Also, View B would be great for mixing patterns and fabrics. I can see it coming in handy for stash busting someday!

I bought this Cotton+Steel Rayon Challis on a trip to Denver. Isn’t that blue so great for spring and summer? Look at those little fish in between the birds! So cute!
