Tea Towels with Custom Spoonflower Fabric

I’m a little behind on this, but I decided to make the recipe tea towels for Mother’s Day. In February I went to Texas to visit my Grandmother and one afternoon we looked through a bunch of her and her Granny’s recipes. There were some old favorites like Cherry Mash Candy, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Peanut Butter Balls which are a Christmas tradition, and Twinkie Cake. There were also some things I have never had like Fresh Apple Cake and Mince Pie. (Not sure about that mince pie…)

Sentimental Crafting

My sewing machine is in the shop so I’ve been cleaning up my sewing room a bit. One of the things I found was a big garbage bag of decades old silver garland. My Grandad passed away a few years ago and so my grandmother sold their house. When we cleaned it out we found length after length of silver garland.

My aunt told me that he was very particular about the Christmas tree and when he got older he wouldn’t let anyone else decorate it. So last Christmas all of the grand kid’s took some of the garland. I’m sure I ended up with the lion’s share, because I had almost a full trash bag!

Altering Sandals

Most of the sewing I have done recently has been altering little things. A little hemming here, a little letting out there. You know, not super fun stuff to share with the world!

Summer has finally arrived and I realized I don’t own a pair of brown sandals. I actually don’t own many sandals at all. I saw some online that looked like they would work for casual days and work days! Of course, shopping online has the one caveat, that you cannot try on your shoes before you buy.

Eek! Too big around the ankle!

Spring Willamette Shirt

I have had my eye on some Hey June Handmade patterns for awhile. I finally decided to pull the trigger and make the Willamette shirt for spring. I really like View A. I made a few alterations. I made the top longer into a tunic style so I can wear it with leggings. I also graded it up from a size 22 to a 24, but I think I could have gotten away with the smaller size. Also, View B would be great for mixing patterns and fabrics. I can see it coming in handy for stash busting someday!

I bought this Cotton+Steel Rayon Challis on a trip to Denver. Isn’t that blue so great for spring and summer? Look at those little fish in between the birds! So cute!

Trying to make time to sew.

I have not had much time to sew recently, but I am not complaining! It has been a busy time for me at work and at home. In April we adopted a 3 month-old kitten named Ezra! We thought he would make a good playmate for our 14 year-old cat, Oscar. Ezra is very full of energy and friendly. Oscar would just like him to take it down a few notches. Take more naps. That kind of thing. :)
