My Body Model

When Erica asked me to be a tester for the My Body Model app, it felt serendipitous! She didn’t know this, but about 6 months earlier I had taped a picture of myself to a window and traced around my outline to decide on wedding dress silhouettes. It worked in a pinch, but it was nowhere near as good as the My Body Model croquis.

You put in your measurements and you get this nice croquis that you can customize with your hair, and face, if you want, and outfits. The light gray lines are nice because they disappear under the clothes once you put in some color or heavy lines.

2018 Sewing Plans!

I know it is already April. (How? What?). And even though I am still finishing up some things from my last year to sew list, I have been thinking about what is on the sewing horizon for 2018.

1. Cashmerette Ames Jeans

I wear black or grey pants to work almost everyday. I thought I could make a nice pair of Ames with this navy scuba faux suede. I had no idea such a fabric combo existed, but I am very excited about it!

New Knitter

Recently I decided to take a knitting class. It’s nearly fall here even though it is going to be 96°F today. The leaves are starting to turn orange and I have always thought of knitting as a fall and winter activity like with a cozy fire crackling in the fireplace, a mug of hot tea steaming, and knitting needles clicking away. I don’t have a fireplace, but I’m working on the mug of tea and knitting part.

I’m still sewing often, blog posts to come, but I’m kind of excited to have a real “slow craft” project. I whipped up a simple black dress on my sewing machine in a couple of hours this weekend which is great! Don’t get me wrong! But, there is something about working on a piece for several weeks, not just because of mistakes, that I am looking forward to. Slow craft really gives you time to think and reflect while you are working with your hands.

Updating my 2017 “To Sew” list

So this year is flying by and our wedding is fast approaching as I told a friend, “there is a lot of wedding crafting happening!” I can’t help but think of what to sew in my free time afterwards. As usual, my “To Sew” list has changed due to wants, needs, and just life in general. I am a list-making maniac, but I am not unwilling to go with the flow and change them as I need to.

Cashmerette Appleton for my Mom

I’m sort of cheating here as this dress is nearly finished. My Mom wants to wear a maxi dress to our rehearsal dinner, but she is having trouble finding a true RTW maxi. They all stop above her ankle, and she is 5′ 4″. What is that about? So I offered to make her one. I helped her pick this beautiful, tropical double knit that is not too clingy and not sheer. We had a quick fitting this weekend and it looks so great. I cannot believe I did not try this pattern sooner!

All the possibilities for a Rehearsal Dinner Dress

Warning: Wedding Post Ahead.

We are less than three months out from the wedding and since I am doing a lot of DIY it means I have not been doing a lot else.

I did find exactly what I was looking for in a clearance off the rack wedding dress, so I do not have the added stress of making my wedding dress. However, I would like to wear something me made to the rehearsal dinner. I cannot seem to make up my mind on a rehearsal dress pattern, fabric, or anything. Do I want to wear white? Do I want to wear something super fancy that I probably won’t wear again? Do I just want to be comfy? So many choices!
