Shockwave: Japanese Fashion Design 1980s–90s

Recently I visited the Denver Art Museum, or part of it, because it was huge. What a fantastic experience! Everything is great, especially their native people’s collections that mix traditional and contemporary art pieces.

They had several great shows on view, but the one I was most interested in was, “Shockwave: Japanese Fashion Design 1980’s – 1990’s. I have to reiterate that until I began to make my own clothes I never paid much attention to fashion. My sculpture background means that I am most interested in how things are constructed and the shapes they create.

Fabric Shopping Suggestions?

Hi Friends,

I have big news! Ian and I have decided to honeymoon in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin. I spent a semester in Glasgow and London and I loved my time in both places. Ian has never been overseas and I am so excited to see him explore all these cities!

GSA 2006

I attended the Glasgow School of Art in 2006. I wish I had taken more pictures, alas it made me feel uncool at the time. The buildings, especially the sculpture studios, were utterly fabulous. My print-making room mate had a studio in an old children’s hospital operating theater with a huge glass ceiling.

Kwik Sew 3980: Memee’s Birthday Pajamas

I recently went to visit my grandmother in Texas for her birthday. I love it there! She lives very close to the border. It is nice and warm and while things in St. Louis are still in Winter Mode, Texas plants are blooming away!

I decided to use my sewing powers for non-selfish reasons, for once, and made her a pair of pajamas. Now my Memee is very particular about her pajamas. These are her requirements.

  1. No cotton. The only pajamas she will wear are slippery nylon which are damn near impossible to find!
  2. No buttons down the front. If you do manage to find the unicorn of pajamas, they have buttons down the front which poke her in the middle of the night.
  3. The tops and bottoms should be matching colors.

Enter the Kwik Sew 3980 Pajama Set version A with some very nice lace details! I have finally found the pattern that will encompass all of those requirements!

If you like sparkles, sequins or Dolly Parton, this post is for you.

We went to Nashville in early May for a fabulous little mini-vacation. There is a lot to do so I know we missed some things. Craft South had to be cut from our list for time. Next time! We did get to Textile Fabric Store, Tennessee’s largest fabric store. I did not take any pictures because I was a little overwhelmed. There was so much to see and touch that I couldn’t decide on anything to take home! There was a very nice hot pink silk decorated with black cats that I hemmed and hawed over for a bit, and then decided that I don’t really care for hot pink all that much. Oh well!
