V8615 Very Easy Vogue: Emerald Pocket Dress

One of my very best and oldest friends got married on April 1st! I am so very happy for them and they are so well suited for each other. They met at a rockabilly bar and danced the night away. So it is not a surprise that their wedding is 1950’s rockabilly themed.

My dress had to be tea length, emerald green, a fitted waist with a flared skirt and it had to have a 1950’s vibe. After 3 bodice muslins, I finally got Vogue 8615 to work for me. And it has pockets!

I made quite a few alterations and they were time consuming! I graded the bodice up 3 sizes from the Vogue size 24 and brought the scoop neck in 2″. I still had to add bra strap holders so my straps wouldn’t show. The bodice is also about 2″ longer than the original, because boobs.

I did not put in the 2 darts in the back. The more room I have the better! I only sized up the waist of the skirt 1 size and I just worked the wider waist into the pre-existing flare of the skirt. There was no need to make the bottom larger, because the skirt was already so full.

#4

The 3/4 sleeves have the most beautiful darts in them that give them a vintage feel. I did have to completely grade up the sleeves to fit my arms. I have basically started adding my own sleeve templates onto the pre-existing arm scythes. Then I ease stitch and baste them until they look right.

#5

There were no other stitches showing as this dress is fully lined so I did an invisible hem on the outer shell of the dress.

#6

This dress is fully lined, I used two different linings, since I couldn’t get enough of one either fabric. I’m not sure if I did the lining correctly. Very Easy Vogue does not give detailed instructions on finishing. So the skirt lining would not hang out I hemmed it about 4 inches shorter than the skirt. I was afraid if I hemmed them together there could be bunching if I was not too careful. Also I know the zipper should be in between the 2 linings but I was on a deadline and I just didn’t have it in me to go the extra step.

Here’s close up of one of the bra strap holders. They work perfectly!

This dress turned out so beautifully, but it was so very time consuming to get it to fit. I don’t know if I could bring myself to try this one again! Hopefully I will see some photos of the wedding and I can update you with a few photos.

Love me some pockets too, the bra strap holders yes & so easy. Pretty shade of green looks lovely on you with a twirly skirt for dancing can’t beat that. All in all dang fine job!

I DO NOT THINK THAT YOU COULD HAVE MADE A MORE FLATTERING DRESS IF YOU TRIED. IT IS BEAUTIFUL AND SO ARE YOU. IT IS ALSO IN MY VERY FAVORITE COLOR.
